What is an IPO Corporate Video?

What is an IPO
Corporate Video?

It is a 5-10 minute introductory video that companies use before entering the national stock market with an IPO (Initial Public Offering).   They are used in “investor meetings” to generate interest leading up to the IPO.  They can also be used for pre-IPO funding activities (e.g. “A” Run, “B” Run, “C” Run).  It is also used during the government audit processes as an introductory video for government officials.

These videos are an important tool, many times, the first line of marketing when introducing the company.    Certainly, they must be informational, but do they have any real impact on how an investor actually feels about your company (e.g. trust, confidence, enthusiasm)?

Problems with Traditional IPO Videos

Many Corporate Videos use a traditional approach, company-centric or product-centric focus on showing buildings, products, factories, machinery in addition to listing facts and figures while using marketing rhetoric.  Yes, they are informational, but it’s not that different than a power point presentation. Without focusing on the audience, there is a tendency to tune-out the audience with streams of cold, hard information.

Using Brand Story to make a powerful, meaningful IPO Corporate Video

We took a chance on our IPO videos using the concepts of Brand Story (see here). Everything we heard about it was perfect for making IPO Corporate Videos.  Brand Story Videos are a powerful tool evoking emotion and building a relationship with the audience.

We’ve had consistent success with this methodology and it validates all of the theories and experiences of Brand Story.  Furthermore, a Brand Story video is about “Your” Story and ensures a unique, genuine narrative;  compelling, intriguing and believable.

Misconceptions about Brand Story IPO Corporate Video

A misconception about a Brand Story IPO Corporate Video is that it doesn’t give enough details for the investors to make a decision about investing in a company.

But the truth is, it’s unrealistic to expect a 5-10 minute introductory video with that as a goal.   Our goals are not to persuade an investor to write a check on the spot.  Our goal is to engage with the audience to begin to build trust and consequently a relationship, which will afford the best opportunity for conversion (investment).

However, even with Brand Storytelling, we do in fact, cover many of the basic features of the company (location, products, business) – but with Brand Story, we bring everything to life, especially the Brand Awareness (see here) that is so essential in generating real trust.

In fact, the details, facts, figures and profit statements will all be carefully laid out in other catalogues, brochures and power point presentations anyways. Also, investors investing large amount of funds will certainly conduct their own due diligence to parse through those details.
